This morning I watched a couple of videos I made of Kazan's breathing this summer, before his surgery. Rasping, struggling to get air into his lungs. He would try to play but have to stop. He would try to greet people at the door but have to go lie down instead. Short walks were an ordeal, long walks out of the question. At the beginning of August he had two surgeries, one for the laryngeal paralysis that was restricting his breathing, and the other (while he was sedated anyway) to prevent his stomach from twisting (he is prone to bloat). The summer weeks that followed were a blur of TLC, medications, vigilance and anxiety. And now Kazan is himself again, crazy and loving. He has lost his voice, but not his spirit. We are beyond words grateful to see our beautiful golden-hearted boy recalled to life.
