Sarah

Kazan probably owes his life to a woman named Sarah.  I haven't been able to reach her yet to thank her.  Kazan ran off with another dog while a neighbour and I were out walking our dogs together on Thursday.  Her dog came back within an hour or so, but Kazan seemed to have just disappeared into the immensity of wilderness that surrounds our home and lake.  Hours later as the sun went down, Sarah called.  She had been walking her dog on a road about 5 kilometers away (as the crow flies, over rugged wilderness).  A muddy, 85-pound, wolf-like dog was following her along a country road, and she let this cold, ragged, dirty, potentially dangerous beast into her home, warmed him up, probably fed him, and somehow made out the almost-obliterated hand-scratched telephone number on the back of one of his tags.  She called us while I was out searching in the darkness of the early evening.  Ron got the message and went to retrieve Kazan.  After we cleaned him up, Kazan collapsed in utter exhaustion.  What would have happened to him if not for Sarah?

Goodness! I can imagine how relieved you must feel right now.

Sounds like it may be time for one of those 'invisible fence' systems for Kazan... at least until he learns the boundaries for solo exploration. I imagine you've considered this?

Josh.

So glad he's ok. Life wouldn't be the same without Kazan! Poor you Mom, you must have been so worried.

Crazy Kazan! I know that I would think twice about slowing down my car if a huge bear like dog was trailing my car :)
Thank you Sarah!

Wow. Now I know what you would put under "Worst thing I ever did was..." if Kazan were ever Pug of the Week.

Glad he's home! Give him a big hug for us. Thank goodness for that woman.

5km is a long way away! I guess he's a wolf dog at heart.

I love hearing stories about strangers helping strangers. It's nice to know that there are still people out there who believe in random acts of kindness. The best part about it is that it's contagious, and sometimes having a total stranger do such a nice thing for you makes you more open to "pay it forward" to another stranger in need in the future.

I think in this case, what makes this story so exceptional, is the fact that Kazan is a GARGANTUAN dog. I would have done the same for a "normal sized" dog, but in this particular situation, if I saw Kazan chasing me or my car, i'd probably run or drive faster. :)
