
One of the first things to strike us about the Cathedral (besides its immensity and the incredible ringing of its bells) was something we’d never seen before. The two spires do not match. We had no idea why, but read later that it has to do with a fire that destroyed much of the cathedral. If I remember correctly, the originally romanesque cathedral (of which the spire on the right survived) was rebuilt in the Gothic style.

Wow - anyone interested in history and architecture would find that fascinating on so many levels!
Beauty aside, what a tremendous waste and flaunting of wealth. Where in the Bible did people get the idea that big expensive buildings and fancy clothes reflect holiness and majesty?? That's my sermon for the year.
Erm, the Temple, fancy Ark of the Covenant (which we're going to find, btw), all that Old Testament malarky...
