freshest from heaven

And now for the most recent arrival - ta-da! Jamie Ruth, just 6 and a half weeks old (in this picture, she was just 3 weeks old). Sweet and beautiful. What a delight to get to see her and hold her while she was still so brand-new. She may be far away across an ocean, but she is really very close to us, her loveliness a treasure to our hearts. Jamie, we look forward to your very first visit to Grandma and Grandpa's house. One day, though we don't yet know when, you will come here and you will meet all those cousins of yours, and won't that be fun! And maybe you can take a walk in the woods like Micah, and help Grandpa light the fire, and then settle down in Grandpa's lap for a cuddle with your favourite teddy. Maybe it will be Big Bird - "peekaboo"! Or maybe not... (but that's another story, ask Josh and Heather).

I believe a certain furry grandchild has not yet had her proper introduction...

Heather has a Big Bird stuffed animal given to her by her parents that creeps us out a little (okay a lot). It has batteries and, in principle, is a charming toy. When you cover its eyes and remove your hand it says 'peek-a-boo'. When you tickle its tummy it laughs (albeit diabolically), when you squeeze its toes it recites "This little piggy..." (three toes, three parts), when you bring its hands together it recites "Patty cakes patty cakes, baker's man...". All this in Big Bird's voice. We had placed it in Jamie's crib. The annoyance started with 'Peek-a-boos' startling us every time we turned on the light for night feedings. The creepiness began one night a few weeks ago when we arrived home somewhat late at night. As we entered the house downstairs we heard Big Bird laughing upstairs.

We were unable to remove the batteries.

Big Bird is now blindfolded and buried in our closet. Heather's closet. I won't go near the thing.

Josh.

And oddly enough, Big Bird started up "Patty cake patty cake" from within the closet this morning. Josh.

Shivers! ... What I most remember about Big Bird is how every time I took a (flash) picture of Jamie in her room, Big Bird would immediately react with a loud "peek-a-boo" from Jamie's crib! Glad he's now relegated (blindfold and all) to the back of a dark closet, where sometime, somehow, when you least expect it, ... (Which reminds me, are you two still suffering from insomnia?)

Wow you posted a lot while I've been away.

The Big Bird story is beyond funny.
